Bellingham, Washington, May/Jun/Jul 2025

We bounced in and around Bellingham several times for about three weeks total in May, June and July. We mostly stayed with longtime friends Susanne and Shawn, whose dog and cat provided us with our much needed pet fix. We also visited our Maui friends John and Barb, with whom we took the Whatcom Chief ferry over to Lummi Island for a delicious dinner. We bicycled around many of Bellingham’s very friendly bikeable streets and paths, stopping into various breweries/cideries, the Spark Museum, and Bellingham’s Trackside Container Village. We visited with Susan’s extended family several times in the Everett – Marysville area, including a memorial service for her uncle Dan, who sadly passed away in early June. We also gutted and rebuilt Susanne and Shawn’s half bathroom that had been badly damaged by burst pipes. Susan’s sister Ann was with us for a couple days in June – so we walked around the campus of Western Washington University almost exactly 60 years to the day that our father had graduated from there with his Bachelors Degree.

The “after” picture of the half bathroom we rebuilt at our friends house. See the original view pic below.
The “before” picture of the half bath remodel we did for our friends’ shop bathroom. The work included a complete replumbing with an electric instant hot water heater, as the original piping was outside the insulation and destroyed in a very unusual deep freeze a couple years ago. The wood subfloor and a few feet of the wall 2×4 footing was also rotted so had to be redone.

The Spark Museum of Electrical Invention. Known for its Tesla coils “Mega Zapper” show – and it did not dissappoint.
This falls in the category of “things I vaguely remember”. At the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention.
Street art in downtown Bellingham. Its a chalkboard and I wrote “Travel the World” on it.
Trackside in Bellingham. Has a non-motorized dirt bike track and many containers that sell food. Plus a large beer garden. You can rent bikes to use on the track or bring your own.
Washington is known for its apples so it logically follows that there is a large number of cideries all over northwest Washington. Over these last two months we have developed an appreciation for craft ciders, every bit as interesting as craft beers.
“Gracie” a delightful little mutt in lovebug mode, who gave us our much needed “pet fix”.
When Gracie is relaxed she lets her tongue hang out slightly – Adam is mimicking her beautifully.

Susan’s extended family lives in Everett – Marysville area and we had several lovely visits with them in May and June.
My uncle Dan was married to my dad’s sister for 56 years. We were glad to be able to be in the area to visit with him one last time and for his memorial service.
